New location will provide Cascadia clients with continued respite services

Cascadia’s new Rockwood Respite opened its doors on Wednesday, February 6 for those experiencing a crisis. Located at 18766 SE Stark Street Rockwood Respite has relocated its staff and clients from the previous Glisan Street Respite. Cascadia purchased the building in 2018, and currently houses Adventist Health in the upper floors of the building. Adventist will continue to lease the space from Cascadia until February 2020.

The respite space was designed by Architect Robert Mosier and built by O’Neill Construction. The new program site will provide services for up to 11 clients at one time. The calming, refreshing colors were carefully selected along with the artwork to create a welcoming and home-like environment for clients where they can get away from everyday stressors that may impact their sense of wellness.

Crisis respite is designed to provide short-term stability and support to individuals experiencing a mental health-related crisis. This is a community-based alternative to psychiatric hospitalization, or as a step-down from higher levels of care. The respite program is voluntary and works collaboratively with residents and community treatment providers to address an individual’s treatment needs while also attending to their particular crisis.

The new Rockwood Respite houses individual bedrooms, staff office space, lounge areas, a large outdoor area with both covered and uncovered spaces, provides clients with three meals a day (cooked and served by staff), medication assistance and reminders, safety planning and ongoing support and assessment of needs. During their stay, clients are encouraged to maintain contact with family, friends and the community, and are supported in their wellness goals and recovery.

This is one of Cascadia’s two respite locations in the Portland Metro area.
